We wanted to build a system that respects the rhythms of nature, uses what we already have, and gives back to the earth at least as much as we take. And so today, on World Environment Day, we want to shed light on everything we do \u2014 behind the scenes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>From Filter to Flame<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For us, zero waste doesn\u2019t begin with recycling \u2014 it begins with&nbsp;<strong>upcycling<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We use&nbsp;<strong>100% cellulose filters<\/strong>&nbsp;to filter our olive oil. Once used, they are no longer suitable for production. But instead of discarding them, we give them a second life. We dry, pack, and transform them into&nbsp;<strong>organic fire starters<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2014 eco-friendly kindling used to light fireplaces or grills. The used filter, rich with the essence and aroma of the oil, gains new purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Olive Pit as Local Energy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During processing, we extract the&nbsp;<strong>woody pit<\/strong>&nbsp;from the olive \u2014 a core quite literally filled with energy. As the pit is soaked in natural olive liquids, its&nbsp;<strong>energy value<\/strong>&nbsp;is remarkably high.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We don\u2019t discard this pit. Instead, we use it as&nbsp;<strong>fuel to heat our facilities, offices, and production buildings<\/strong>. But we go further \u2014&nbsp;<strong>more than 40 households<\/strong>&nbsp;in the Vodnjan area heat their homes with this&nbsp;<strong>local, renewable, and sustainable energy<\/strong>, eliminating the need for industrial pellets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/chiavalon.business\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/gnojidba-1024x680.webp\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"680\" src=\"https:\/\/chiavalon.business\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/gnojidba-1024x680.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8305\" srcset=\"https:\/\/chiavalon.business\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/gnojidba-1024x680.webp 1024w, https:\/\/chiavalon.business\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/gnojidba-300x199.webp 300w, https:\/\/chiavalon.business\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/gnojidba-768x510.webp 768w, https:\/\/chiavalon.business\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/gnojidba-1536x1021.webp 1536w, https:\/\/chiavalon.business\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/gnojidba-600x399.webp 600w, https:\/\/chiavalon.business\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/gnojidba.webp 1961w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><strong>Compost That Feeds Future Olives<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After processing, we\u2019re left with\u00a0<strong>pomace<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 a rich, thick paste often seen as waste. To us, it\u2019s a raw material for\u00a0<strong>high-quality compost<\/strong>. We compost it for over a year, after which we return this\u00a0<strong>organic matter<\/strong>\u00a0to our olive groves. In this way, the soil isn\u2019t depleted \u2014 it\u2019s enriched and nourished by what came from it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><strong>Branches, Leaves, and the Cycle of Life in the Olive Grove<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our groves are alive year-round \u2014 but especially in spring, when we prune. This generates a large amount of\u00a0<strong>branches and leaves<\/strong>, which we don&#8217;t discard. A\u00a0<strong>special machine<\/strong>\u00a0collects and shreds the plant material, which we then send for composting. After\u00a0<strong>1\u20132 years<\/strong>, this natural matter is returned to the earth as\u00a0<strong>nutrients for new fruit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><strong>No Waste, Only New Beginnings<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For us, the olive is not just a fruit \u2014 it\u2019s a\u00a0<strong>circular system<\/strong>. From oil on your plate, to warmth in your home, to the soil beneath your feet \u2014 everything is reused, everything returns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sustainability is not a marketing slogan. It\u2019s a\u00a0<strong>daily commitment<\/strong>.
